Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Review // A close acquaintance of mine, who has been a loyal user of the Fold series, was contemplating upgrading to the latest model. Initially, they sought my opinion on whether to wait for the Fold 6. I mentioned that I would provide a more informed perspective after reviewing the device. However, following the launch event, I advised them that the Z Fold 5 appeared to be a sensible choice as the differences between it and the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 were minimal. Upon witnessing the review unit in my possession a few days later, my acquaintance swiftly decided to purchase the Fold 6. This experience highlighted to me the varying perceptions individuals hold towards products and how reviewers may sometimes overlook user expectations.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 review:

My friend made a swift decision based on the significant changes in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 compared to the Galaxy Fold2 he previously owned. As someone who has experienced all the Fold devices since Samsung introduced the segment over five years ago, I must admit that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is now nearly a flawless foldable device, offering a level of compactness similar to those from Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus.

When holding the folded Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, it felt slightly thicker than standard phones but not significantly heavier than some larger smartphones I’ve recently used. Compared to the Fold 5, the Fold 6 is thinner and lighter. Notably, there is minimal space visible between the two sides when the phone is folded, and the crease is even more subtle when unfolded. Upgraders from earlier Fold models will notice these improvements, particularly with the stunning 7.6-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display and slightly larger 6.3-inch front screen, both offering brighter visuals than previous Fold models. Samsung’s expertise in creating exceptional displays shines through, and the management of the hinge and fold on the Fold 6 is particularly well-executed.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 review at Glance:

I have consistently viewed Samsung’s Fold phones as the successors to the Note series, catering to business users who require additional screen real estate for tasks such as accessing spreadsheets, reviewing documents, and consuming content while on the go. In this regard, the Fold6 stands out as a top-tier device, particularly with the inclusion of the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen3 SM8650-AC processor. This powerful chipset enables seamless multitasking, allowing users to work on a spreadsheet, browse the web, and stream music simultaneously. Additionally, users can utilize the S-Pen for tasks like editing Google Sheets, provided they purchase it separately along with a compatible cover. Samsung has maintained a high standard for the cameras on the Fold phones, and while the Fold6’s camera setup is similar to its predecessor, it delivers on user expectations with versatile functionality. Although it may lack the extreme 100x digital zoom feature found in the S24, the camera performance remains impressive in most scenarios, producing quality results that are well-suited for viewing on the device’s expansive screen.

The camera on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 can be enhanced with AI capabilities, allowing users to manipulate photos by removing or moving subjects, resizing objects, and even creating slow-motion versions of videos with a long press. While these features may not be frequently used by the average user, they add value to the device. On the other hand, AI features like automatic transcription, app translations, text summarization cater more to the business community and offer practical utility. The phone also offers AI-driven personalization options such as themes and dynamic home screen images based on weather conditions, providing a unique and engaging user experience.

The battery life of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is reliable, lasting a full day without any concerns. However, continuous use of the unfolded screen may require charging by evening. Fortunately, I could conveniently charge the phone wirelessly using the charger on my desk.

Should you buy the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 ?

Despite the advancements in AI technology, many individuals continue to choose the Samsung Fold series for its seamless large screen and exceptional performance. Samsung has maintained the Fold 6’s lead in the market due to its unique compatibility with a stylus, setting it apart from competitors. While the AI features are commendable, there is room for improvement in utilizing AI to enhance user interface understanding based on user context and preferences. Despite increasing competition in the foldable phone segment, Samsung’s extensive experience in producing foldable devices gives the Galaxy Z Fold 6 a competitive edge. It is worth considering positioning the Fold 6 as a business-oriented device, potentially succeeding the Note series and even filling the void left by BlackBerry. Although targeting a smaller audience, this approach may resonate well with users appreciative of such features.
