iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air Features
Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants has revealed that both the standard iPhone 17 and a new slimmer variant, referred to as the “iPhone 17 Air,” will incorporate ProMotion technology with 120Hz ProMotion Display. This feature enables the devices to achieve a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, enhancing the smoothness of scrolling and video playback. Additionally, ProMotion allows the displays to adjust to lower refresh rates for improved power efficiency, although it remains uncertain whether these new models will be able to drop to 10Hz or 1Hz like their Pro counterparts.
The current iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models are limited to a 60Hz refresh rate, making the introduction of ProMotion in the iPhone 17 series a significant upgrade (120Hz ProMotion Display). The ability to lower the refresh rate is particularly beneficial for features like the always-on display, which can show Lock Screen elements even when the device is not actively in use. This advancement in display technology is expected to enhance user experience significantly.
Young has a reliable history of providing accurate information regarding Apple’s display features, having previously predicted the larger screen sizes for the iPhone 16 Pro models. The iPhone 17 series is anticipated to be officially announced in September 2025 with 120Hz ProMotion Display, generating excitement among Apple enthusiasts for the upcoming enhancements in display capabilities.
