Apple’s Mac mini is rumored to be getting a new design with the upcoming M4 model, potentially sacrificing USB-A ports for a smaller chassis size. The M4 Pro variant is expected to be the most premium Mac mini yet, featuring five USB-C ports, an ethernet port, HDMI port, and a headphone jack, with a possible release in October.

That’s great news for the rumored similarly-sized device to an Apple TV, as it will have its own internal power supply, eliminating the need for a separate power brick. The unveiling of the iPhone 16 is imminent, but the M4 or M4 Pro Mac mini won’t be announced at the upcoming Apple event, with a potential reveal at least a month later in October.
The Evolution of Mac Mini Design
The Mac Mini’s design has remained unchanged for a long time, with the last significant refresh being almost 15 years ago. Despite the potential removal of USB-A ports in the upcoming M4 Mac mini, the shift towards smaller sizes and the prevalence of USB-C make it a worthwhile sacrifice.
