5 Door Mahindra Thar Roxx On Road Price & Specification
Mahindra & Mahindra plans to make Thar the leader in the mid-sized sports utility vehicle segment over the next 3-5 years. The company recently launched the five-door Thar Roxx and may introduce new products to cater to different customer segments.
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) Executive Director and CEO for auto and farm director Rajesh Jejurikar stated that the launch of Thar Roxx presents an opportunity to make the Thar portfolio the number one brand in the next 3-5 years.
The Thar Roxx is a mainstream SUV designed to cater to the needs of the segment’s buyers, with an investment of around ₹1,100 crore in development and additional production capacity. The automaker has no plans to export the model.
Mumbai-based automaker holds a 19% market share in the domestic SUV segment and a 27% market share in the mid-sized SUV segment.
Around 45% of the country’s SUV vertical volume is accounted for by models priced over ₹12.5 lakh, with the rest coming from lower-priced models. Leading brands in the mid-size SUV segment include Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, as well as XUV700, Scorpio Classic, and Scorpio N.
M&M plans to open bookings for the Thar Roxx from October 3, 2024, with deliveries starting on Dussehra (October 12). The new model, designed at the Mahindra India Design Studio in Mumbai, is being manufactured in Nashik, Maharashtra.
Mahindra Thar Roxx Specification
The Mahindra Thar Roxx, a 5-door SUV, has been launched after two years of development and testing. Starting at Rs 12.99 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom), it offers two extra doors, more powerful engine options, and premium features compared to its 3-door counterpart.
01 – The Thar Roxx has a longer wheelbase by 400mm, making it longer than its 3-door counterpart by 443mm.
02 – The Thar Roxx has a smaller width and height difference, with a 50 mm and 68 mm increase, respectively.
03 – The Thar Roxx, due to its size, boasts a boot space of 644 litres up to the roof.
04 – The Thar Roxx, a higher-tuned version of the 3-door Thar, utilizes the same turbo-petrol and diesel engine options.
05 – The Thar Roxx turbo-petrol SUV offers 10 PS more power and 10 Nm more torque compared to the 3-door Thar, while the diesel engine provides 20 PS more power and 30 Nm higher torque output.
06 – The larger Thar 3-door in automatic is significantly more powerful than the Thar 3-door in both turbo-petrol and diesel versions, with the petrol engine producing 25 PS more and the diesel 43 PS more.
07 – The Thar 3-door offers both RWD and 4WD options in petrol variants, while the Thar Roxx petrol is exclusively available with RWD drivetrain.
08 – The Thar Roxx offers both petrol and diesel engines, paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed AT, similar to the Thar 3-door.
09 – Mahindra’s larger Thar does not come with the 1.5-litre diesel engine option offered in the 3-door version of the Thar.
10 – Thar Roxx is a premium alternative to its 3-door version, featuring an all-LED lighting setup, C-shaped LED DRLs, and larger 19-inch alloy wheels.
11 – The larger Thar is more expensive than the regular Thar, featuring larger 10.25-inch displays, ventilated front seats, automatic AC, wireless phone charger, panoramic sunroof, 9-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, automatic headlights, and rain-sensing wipers.
12 – The Thar Roxx offers a smaller 7-inch touchscreen, analogue instrument cluster, manual AC, and a 6-speaker sound system, while also featuring 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, and level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
13 – The Thar SUVs come with dual front airbags, electronic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and hill hold and descent control.
